Shellfish Focus Day

  • Samoset Resort 220 Warrenton Street Rockport, ME, 04856 United States (map)

Save the date for the first in-person Fishermen’s Forum in three years. Shellfish Focus Day is always the first day of the Forum (Thursday, March 2, 2023). More details about the event, including the agenda, will be posted here as they become available. For more information, visit: https://mainefishermensforum.org/

The Shellfish Advisory Council (ShAC) and Maine Department of Marine Resources are continuing the tradition started in 2018 for a networking hour at 3:00 PM after the presentations on Shellfish Focus Day during the Maine Fishermen’s Forum. This is a great opportunity to share your work with this audience of shellfish harvesters, dealers, growers, managers, scientists, students, and others. Posters, pictures/videos, research gear or monitoring equipment, reports, manuals, and curriculum are welcome. The selling of merchandise or other items is prohibited at this session.

If you are working on a project to support Maine’s shellfish industry, please submit your ideas on this Google Form by February 10th. Submissions will be reviewed by the session organizers for alignment with Shellfish Focus Day, and presenters will be notified of their acceptance by February 17th. Email Marissa McMahan (mmcmahan@manomet.org) with any questions, and please forward this email to others who may be interested.

Due to space constraints, we will have a limited number of tables that will be shared by presenters, and ask that presenters bring easels or stands for posters as Samoset does not allow anything to be attached to the walls. Please also bring any multimedia equipment and power strips/extension cords for videos, websites, or related displays.

This session will begin after the formal agenda, from 3:00-4:00. All materials will need to be removed promptly at 4 PM, as staff at the Samoset Resort will need to transition the room for the seafood reception at 5 PM. Snacks and beverages will be provided thanks to our sponsors, who will be recognized during this session.

Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries, Manomet, and Tidal Bay Consulting are helping to plan this event, along with Maine DMR and the ShAC.
